FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Myofascial Release (MFR)?
Think of fascia as a 3D web of tough connective tissue that wraps around every single muscle, bone, nerve, and organ in your body from head to toe. It acts like your body's internal memory keeper.
When you experience physical injuries, surgeries, or even emotional and mental stress, your fascia tightens up to protect you. Over time, these tight spots create "pulls" throughout your body. This can lead to poor posture, stiffness, and chronic pain. MFR is a specialized hands-on therapy that helps release these tight patterns so your body can move freely again.
Why is MFR so effective?
Standard medical tests like X-rays, CAT scans, and MRIs only look at bones and organs—they cannot see fascial tightness. Because of this, many people suffer from pain that traditional medical testing can't explain.
During a session, a trained therapist uses their hands to find these hidden tight areas. We apply gentle, sustained pressure to the restricted areas for 3 to 5 minutes at a time. This steady pressure signals the tissue to soften, lengthen, and reorganize. When your fascia is fluid and relaxed, your body moves with ease. When it is tight, you feel stuck and uncomfortable.
What should I wear to my sessions?
During your session, I will look at your posture and how you move to find out where your body is holding tension. You will also need to stretch and move freely without being restricted by tight clothing.
Please wear clothing that keeps you comfortable and is appropriate for evaluation.
Women: A sports bra and loose-fitting shorts, or a two-piece bathing suit.
Men: A pair of loose-fitting shorts.
Please avoid wearing lotion or body oils before your session.
How often will I need treatment?
Healing is a process, not a one-time event. If you have been dealing with chronic pain for years, it will take some time for your body to unlearn those protective holding patterns.
Because everyone heals differently, there is no guaranteed number of sessions. Your progress depends on:
How long you have had the pain or stiffness.
How deeply the symptoms affect your day-to-day life.
How consistently you can receive treatment (especially at the beginning).
Your commitment to doing simple home stretching programs and letting go of old physical habits.
What should I expect after a session?
Every person responds differently to Myofascial Release, and your response can even change from session to session. Here is what is completely normal to experience:
The "Healing Crisis": You might feel temporary soreness, tiredness, or a shift in your pain for 24 to 48 hours after treatment. This is not a sign of injury. It is simply your body adjusting to its new, healthier alignment as old holding patterns get corrected.
Emotional Release: Because fascia stores physical and emotional stress, it is incredibly common to feel a sudden wave of emotion during or after a session. You might feel joy, relaxation, peacefulness or perhaps experience angst, anger, or sadness often associated with a past event that was released. This is a healthy, natural part of letting go.
Increased Energy and Flexibility: Many clients leave feeling lighter, taller, more relaxed, and able to move with much greater ease.
Pro Tip for Recovery: Drink 16-24 ounces of water immediately following your session to help rehydrate your tissues. Additionally, increase your water intake to roughly ½ your body weight in ounces of water for the next 48-72 hours.
Give yourself permission to rest and take it easy for the rest of the day.
